Amid rising thefts, police detain four fraudsters disguised as Babas

Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: Four individuals posing as monks were detained by Maitri Vihar police on Saturday on suspicion of theft and fraudulent behavior.
According to reports, the suspects, claiming to be ‘babas,’ were moving around the Maitri Vihar area seeking alms. Initially, locals gave them Rs 10, but the suspects allegedly demanded more, raising suspicion among residents. Alarmed by their behavior, locals alerted the police.
The Maitri Vihar police quickly responded, detaining the four individuals. During interrogation, it was discovered that they were from Rajasthan. The police are now investigating their identities and checking for any prior criminal records.
This incident has heightened concerns as it follows recent reports of significant burglaries and robberies in the city. The Commissionerate Police has since intensified surveillance and deployed additional personnel to monitor suspicious activities in residential areas.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual behavior to help prevent such incidents in the future.
