Rain likely in northern Odisha; winter chill to return across the state

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: After a brief pause, light to moderate rain is expected in northern and north-western Odisha on Saturday and Sunday due to a western cyclonic system, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, the remaining parts of the state will experience a drop in night temperatures by 2°C–4°C, bringing back winter chills.
The IMD’s regional office in Bhubaneswar has issued alerts for light rain in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Nuapada on Saturday. On Sunday, light to moderate rain is likely in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
Additionally, dense fog is predicted in districts like Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada over the next few days, which could significantly reduce visibility.
While the weather is expected to remain dry across Odisha till January 1, the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in early January raises concerns.
Farmers, already reeling from unseasonal rains that have damaged crops, are anxious about further rainfall worsening the situation.
