Axis Bank gold loan scam: Another accused arrested, total arrests reach four
Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: The Malkangiri police on Tuesday arrested Soumya Ranjan Das, another accused in the Axis Bank gold loan scam, bringing the total number of arrests to four. Das had been evading arrest since the scam came to light.
The case involves three Axis Bank employees conspiring with two others to defraud the bank by taking loans using fake documents and signatures. They pledged 1,648.70 grams of gold in the names of seven people and showed these names in loan documents, though all the gold was actually under Soumya Ranjan Das's name.
The accused claimed substantial losses on the gold loans using fabricated documents, defrauding the bank of approximately ₹83.80 lakh.
The police are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining absconding accused. Biswa Ranjan remains on the run as efforts to locate him intensify.
