Elderly man survives brutal eye-gouging attempt in Balangir
Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: A shocking incident unfolded near the Loisingha petrol pump on National Highway 26 in Balangir district, where two bike-borne miscreants attempted to gouge out the eyes of a 70-year-old man. The gruesome attack, believed to stem from past rivalry, occurred on the night of December 22.
The victim, Insan Jhankar, was returning home from a relative’s house in Biruda when the miscreants offered him a lift. Declining their offer, he continued on foot, only to be attacked from behind. The assailants injected him with a sedative, rendering him unconscious, and then attempted to gouge out his eyes.
Fortunately, Jhankar regained consciousness during the attack, and his cries for help forced the miscreants to flee the scene. He was later rescued and admitted to Bhimabhoi Medical College and Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits. The exact motive behind the brutal assault remains under investigation.
