Similipal Sanctuary reopens to tourists after rain-induced closure

Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: The Similipal Sanctuary, Asia's second-largest biosphere reserve known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity, reopened to tourists on Monday after being closed for two days due to heavy rainfall.
The sanctuary had been shut on December 21 and 22 following unexpected unseasonal rains. With weather conditions improving, it welcomed visitors again on December 23, 2024.
Tourists can now embark on an adventurous Jungle Safari through the core areas of the sanctuary in open Jimny vehicles. For those seeking an extended experience, guest houses at Kumari, Ramtheerth, Gudugudia, and Jamuani are available for overnight stays. Additionally, nature enthusiasts can indulge in camping at Gudugudia, but prior booking is essential for this activity.
Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj district, where the sanctuary is located, continues to experience a cold spell accompanied by dense fog. Authorities have advised visitors to be cautious and dress warmly while exploring the sanctuary's natural wonders during this chilly weather.
