Depression in Bay of Bengal to bring rain to Odisha’s coastal districts

Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: Odisha is preparing for another spell of wet weather, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in seven districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Areas in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada are expected to experience light to moderate rain during this period.
According to meteorological reports, a depression is currently active in the Bay of Bengal. On Sunday evening, it was located deep in the sea, far from the southwest Bay of Bengal coast, but its direction has shifted due to changes in wind speed. The depression is expected to remain in the central west Bay of Bengal, which will bring rain to Odisha on December 24 and 25.
Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in the coastal districts on December 24, affecting all coastal and nearby districts from Balasore to Ganjam. On December 25, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, and Nayagarh.
Additionally, dense fog is likely to persist in various parts of the state in the coming days, with night temperatures predicted to drop by 2°C to 4°C, ushering in a fresh wave of cold. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in five districts—Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, and Kalahandi—on Monday and Tuesday, warning that visibility may fall below 50 meters.
