Cuttack admin withholds ADEOs' salaries over MGNREGA failures
Bhubaneswar, Dec 21: In a bid to address underperformance, the Cuttack district administration has instructed Block Development Officers (BDOs) to withhold the salaries of several Assistant Development Extension Officers (ADEOs) who failed to meet expectations.
Cuttack District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde issued the directive to penalize 12 accountants, doubling as Data Entry Operators, for lapses in implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Reports indicate that Cuttack ranks 29th in Odisha in MGNREGA performance. ADEOs were tasked with providing employment to at least 100 individuals in each panchayat under the scheme but fell significantly short, forcing many villagers to migrate in search of work.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the poor execution of MGNREGA, Shinde emphasized the urgency of the situation. Letters were sent to BDOs, instructing strict enforcement of the order. The move aims to improve accountability and ensure better implementation of welfare schemes in the district.
