IIC injured in stone-pelting by sand mafias in Mayurbhanj
Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) Prakash Rath of Kaptipada police station was severely injured in an attack by sand mafias during a raid on an illegal sand storage facility in Dahisahi village, Mayurbhanj district, on Wednesday.
Acting on credible information, IIC Rath conducted the raid within his police jurisdiction. However, the situation turned violent when the mafias, including several women, resisted the operation by pelting stones and vandalizing his vehicle. The ambush left Rath critically injured. Upon receiving the distress call, a police team rushed to the scene, rescued Rath, and ensured his safe transport to a nearby hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment, and doctors have described his condition as critical.
Following the incident, the police registered a case against the assailants and launched a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those involved. Authorities have also intensified efforts to curb the illegal sand mining operations in the region, vowing strict action against those violating the law.
