Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: The body of an engineering student was found hanging in a mess in the Laxmiposi area under Baripada Bhanjpur police limits on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Buddhaditya Naik, was a final-year mechanical engineering student at a private college near Baripada town. He hailed from Badajambila village in Bishoi block, Mayurbhanj district, and was the elder son of Dharmendra Naik.

According to friends, Buddhaditya had an argument with someone over the phone on Sunday night before retiring to his room. The next morning, mess residents were shocked to discover his body hanging from the ceiling.

Buddhaditya's father, Dharmendra Naik, who had spoken to him at length the previous evening, rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. He has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the incident may be linked to a dispute with a girlfriend. However, the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed. Local police have launched an investigation into the matter.
