Newborn abandoned and half-buried, rescued in critical condition

Bhubaneswar, Dec 14: In a heart-wrenching incident, a newborn girl was discovered half-buried on the roadside near Tulundupali village under Binika Police limits in Subarnapur district early Saturday morning.
According to reports, a local resident, Santosh Nayi, spotted the baby, who was partially buried in the ground but still alive. Realizing the critical condition of the infant, he rushed her to the Binika Community Health Centre. As the baby was suffering from hypothermia, doctors advised transferring her to the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital for advanced care.
The Binika police, informed about the incident, visited the hospital and initiated an investigation. Authorities suspect the baby may have been abandoned by her parents.
Recalling the discovery, Santosh Nayi said, “I was shocked to see the tiny infant lying on the roadside. When I realized she was still breathing, I immediately acted. She was covered in mud, dirt, and blood, but I knew I had to get her help quickly.”
The police are working to identify the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the newborn.
