Forest worker critically injured in elephant attack in Sundargarh

Bhubaneswar, Dec 14: A forest worker was critically injured in an elephant attack near an ashram in the Tamda Ranger area of Sundargarh district late Friday night.
The incident occurred when a forest patrol team was tracking the movement of a herd of tuskers near the Ashram forest. The elephants suddenly charged at the team, forcing the members to scatter for safety. Unfortunately, one worker was unable to escape in time and was attacked. The tuskers inflicted severe injuries to his arms and legs, leaving him immobilized in the dense forest.
The forest department immediately launched a search operation, but efforts to locate him during the night were unsuccessful due to the challenging terrain and the threat of the roaming tuskers. After nearly eight hours, the injured worker was found on Saturday morning and rushed to a nearby hospital. He was later shifted to the Rourkela Government Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The incident highlights the risks faced by forest workers while managing human-wildlife conflicts.
