IMD forecasts no relief as Odisha’s night temperatures continue to drop
Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: Odisha is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures as winter chill sets in, with night temperatures plummeting by 4°C to 5°C in a single day on Wednesday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 13 cities in Odisha recorded night temperatures below 15°C.
Winter, which began in late November, saw a brief interruption due to cloudy skies and light rain in early December, causing a rise in temperatures. However, the mercury has dipped significantly this week.
Keonjhar and Angul witnessed a drop of 5°C, while Jharsuguda recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 10.8°C. Bhubaneswar registered a minimum temperature of 18.2°C, a 3°C decrease from Tuesday.
Other temperatures recorded include Koraput at 12.6°C, Bhawanipatna (13.1°C), Daringibari (13.5°C), Sundargarh and Phulbani (14°C), Hirakud (14.7°C), Talcher (14.8°C), Sonepur (15°C), Rayagada and Nuapada (15.4°C), and Boudh and Cuttack (15.5°C).
The IMD predicts no significant change in night temperatures over the next four to five days but expects a further dip, intensifying the chill. The falling temperatures have also led to an increase in fog across the state.
