One dead, two injured as onion truck catches fire after collision on NH-49
Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: A tragic accident claimed one life and left two others critically injured when an onion-laden truck caught fire following a head-on collision with a tractor near Dumurudhiha Chowk on National Highway 49 late Wednesday night. The mishap occurred under Bisoi police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The truck, loaded with onions, caught fire upon impact with the tractor. The blaze also engulfed a motorbike parked nearby, reducing it to ashes.
The deceased, identified as Pappu Mahanat, a laborer from Nuagaon, was at the site during the accident. The truck’s driver and helper sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to Rairangpur Medical College for treatment, where their condition remains critical.
The fire caused significant property damage and disrupted traffic on the highway. Upon receiving information, Bisoi police rushed to the spot, doused the flames with the help of locals, and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
