SSMSV to oversee security of Puri Srimandir and key pilgrim sites
Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: The Odisha government has unveiled comprehensive modalities to streamline the functioning of the Swatantra Shree Mandir Surakshya Vahini (SSMSV) in Puri. Formerly known as the Special Security Battalion, the SSMSV ensures the safety and security of the revered Shree Jagannath Temple.
According to the new guidelines, the SSMSV’s responsibilities have been expanded to include the protection of Puri Srimandir, Sri Gundicha Temple, the Parikrama Project, Mausi Maa Temple, Bada Danda, Sri Marg, and Jagannath Vihar. The force will operate under the direct supervision of the Puri Superintendent of Police (SP).
To enhance preparedness, SSMSV members will undergo regular training drills conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG) to tackle emergencies and armed threats. Their training will also cover bomb detection and disposal. Furthermore, the SSMSV will be equipped with advanced weaponry and cutting-edge technical equipment, ensuring robust security for the temples and surrounding areas, safeguarding Puri's cultural and spiritual heritage.
