Vigilantes tie and humiliate suspected paddy thieves in Keonjhar

Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: In a disturbing incident, two individuals were allegedly punished by a kangaroo court after being accused of stealing eight sacks of paddy in Dimirimunda village, located within the Telkoi police jurisdiction of Keonjhar district, on Monday.
The accused have been identified as Babuli Padhan and Akhi Padhan. Reports indicate that they broke into the home of Suresh Padhan late at night, around 11 PM, while his family was asleep. The duo reportedly stole eight sacks of paddy from the house.
A neighbor, alerted by the noise, went to investigate and caught sight of the suspects attempting to escape. The neighbor raised the alarm, leading to their capture by the villagers.
Today, the residents of Dimirimunda took the law into their own hands and conducted a trial in a kangaroo court. In a display of vigilante justice, the accused were reportedly tied with ropes around their necks, had black ink smeared on their faces, and were made to wear shoes around their necks while being forced to walk in circles around the village.
Following a tip-off, Telkoi police arrived at the scene and began a formal investigation into the incident.
