Bhubaneswar, Dec 7: Rairakhol police detained a self-proclaimed godman on Saturday for allegedly raping a young woman after intoxicating her in the Rairakhol area of Sambalpur district. The accused, identified as Prafulla Mahala of Bhaliapadar village in Boudh district, resides at Baisnabajholi Ashram in Rairakhol.

Reports indicate that the victim, suffering from acid reflux, initially approached Mahala for treatment. He provided her with medicine and asked her to return after a month. Due to distance, she did not revisit immediately.

On Friday, the woman brought a relative to Rairakhol hospital and contacted Mahala for additional medicine. He invited her to the ashram, where he gave her four pills. After consuming them, she lost consciousness. The godman allegedly took advantage of her condition and raped her.

When she regained consciousness, Mahala arranged an auto-rickshaw to drop her off, and she was later found at Medical Chowk. Hospital staff rescued her, and her family filed a police complaint. The accused is now in custody as investigations continue.
