Bhubaneswar, Dec 6: A shocking case of corporal punishment has surfaced in Balikhamara village under Muribahal police limits in Balangir district, where a teacher allegedly assaulted a Class IV student with slippers.

The incident came to light after the victim’s mother, Sanjulata Karmi, lodged a complaint with Muribahal police. According to her, the teacher, identified as Bibekananda Munda, physically abused her son Biswajit after a plate he was eating from slipped from his hand during the mid-day meal.

Based on Sanjulata’s complaint, the police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused teacher has been summoned for questioning.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage among local residents, who are demanding strict action against the teacher.

Commenting on the matter, the school's Headmaster-In-Charge, Debendra Rout, stated, “I cannot comment on the issue as I was absent that day. The accused teacher is best placed to explain the situation.”
