Odisha Assembly adjourned amidst uproar over Polavaram project

Bhubaneswar, Dec 6: The Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes today as Congress MLAs staged a protest over the rejection of their adjournment motion on the Polavaram project. The Speaker disallowed the motion, triggering uproar and disruptions in the House.
Congress legislators, determined to raise the issue, trooped into the well of the House, shouting slogans and expressing their dissatisfaction with the Speaker's decision. The uproar disrupted proceedings, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the Assembly initially till 11:30 am. However, as the commotion persisted, the House was adjourned again until 4 pm.
The Polavaram project has been a contentious issue in Odisha, with opposition parties arguing that the project poses significant risks to the state's interests, including potential submergence of villages and displacement of people in the tribal-dominated areas of Odisha. Congress leaders demanded a thorough discussion in the Assembly to address these concerns, accusing the government of neglecting Odisha’s welfare.
