Infection claims life of 7-year-old leopard Rani at Sambalpur Zoo

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: A 7-year-old female leopard named Rani tragically passed away from an infection at Sambalpur Zoo on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that Rani was in seemingly good health throughout the day, actively interacting with visitors and showing no signs of distress. However, around 6:00 PM, she began to vomit, prompting the zoo's veterinary team to spring into action. Despite their prompt treatment efforts, Rani succumbed shortly after.
Upon examination, veterinarians discovered that the cause of her death was an infection in her uterus. DFO Anshu Pragyan Das explained, "Rani was fine earlier in the day, but by 6 PM, she started vomiting. We observed some discharge from her internal organs and administered anti-inflammatory and antibiotic injections. We suspected a uterine infection, and a post-mortem report will confirm the exact cause."
Earlier in November, in a bid to enhance the leopard population, Rani had mated with a male leopard named Raja at the zoo. Unfortunately, her life was cut short by this sudden health crisis.
