Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman, distraught over family disputes, set herself and her two-month-old infant on fire after pouring kerosene in Atoda village near Salipur, under Jagatpur police station in Cuttack district.

The tragic event unfolded when the woman locked herself and her child inside the house before committing the desperate act. Locals, noticing smoke and cries for help, rushed to the scene and managed to rescue them, with the assistance of the police who broke down the door. Both were immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Despite efforts by medical staff, the infant succumbed to severe burns shortly after arrival. The mother was later shifted to a private hospital, where she too passed away due to critical injuries.

The incident has left the community in shock. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, focusing on the family disputes that may have driven the woman to this extreme step.
