Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: A tragic road accident on Friday afternoon claimed two lives and left two others critically injured when two motorcycles collided head-on on the Madhiapali Bridge under the jurisdiction of Thisura police in Odisha's Bolangir district.

One of the deceased has been identified as Basant Sahu, a resident of Arjunpur, while the identity of the other victim is yet to be confirmed. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one succumbed to injuries, and the remaining two are undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Reports indicate that Basant and a youth were traveling on one bike when they collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision killed Basant instantly.

Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and adherence to traffic regulations in the area.
