Odisha couple dies by suicide after quarrel over mobile phone
Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: In a tragic incident, a couple was found dead in Budukiya village under Baliguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district. The deceased, identified as Pramod Malik and his wife Puari Malik, reportedly ended their lives following a dispute over a mobile phone.
According to reports, Puari had recently brought a smartphone from her father’s house. However, her husband, Pramod, mortgaged the phone to purchase alcohol, leading to frequent arguments. On Wednesday, the quarrel escalated, and Puari reportedly locked herself in a room and hanged herself. Later, Pramod also took his own life in a separate room.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning when neighbors heard the cries of the couple’s 11-month-old daughter. Suspecting something was amiss, they peered through the windows and discovered the couple hanging. They immediately informed the police.
Police arrived at the scene with a magistrate, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident is underway.
