Bhubaneswar, Nov 15: Boita Bandana celebrations turned tragic for the villagers of Karmu in Salepur block, Cuttack district, Odisha, after a three-year-old boy tragically drowned in the village pond on Friday morning.

The boy, a native of Karmu, had gone to the pond to participate in the Kartik Purnima tradition of floating a paper boat, a ritual symbolic of Odisha's maritime heritage. However, while at the pond, the child slipped into the water and drowned. His family members conducted a long search, and after some time, they found him in the pond.

The child was immediately rushed to the Salepur Community Health Center (CHC), but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The news of his untimely death spread quickly through the village, casting a shadow over the otherwise festive day. The community, which had gathered to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima, was left in shock and mourning over the tragic loss.
