Woman found dead at in-laws’ house in Mayurbhanj; family alleges murder

Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: A woman, identified as Arati Sethi, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws' residence in Mathiabhanga village under Khunta police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Friday night.

Arati’s family has alleged that she was subjected to prolonged domestic violence and torture by her husband, Sumant, her mother-in-law, Shantilata, and her sister-in-law, Tilottama. They claimed that Arati had previously sought refuge at her parental home due to persistent harassment, which only escalated after her return.

According to sources, Sumant informed Arati's family that she had died by suicide. However, when the family arrived, they found her body lying on a bed, contradicting the claim. They alleged that Arati was murdered by her husband and in-laws.

Acting on the complaint, Khunta police detained the husband and in-laws for questioning. Arati’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigations are underway.
