Tara Tarini Temple undergoes purification after theft desecration

Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: The sacred Tara Tarini Temple in Ganjam district will undergo a Mahasnana purification ritual today after being desecrated by thieves who stole ornaments worth lakhs.
According to reports, the ritual will begin with priests and devotees assembling at the Rushikulya River for a special puja. They will collect 108 pitchers of water and ascend 999 steps to the temple, where the water will be used to bathe the presiding deity as part of the purification process.
Following the Mahasnana, three sacred mantras will be recited 108 times to complete the ritual. Once the sanctity of the shrine is restored, the temple will reopen for devotees to offer darshan.
The decision to conduct the ritual came after the temple was broken into on November 6. Thieves stole valuables, including cash and a silver crown, defiling the sacred space.
Thousands of devotees are expected to witness the purification ceremony and seek the blessings of Goddess Tara Tarini. “The Mahasnana ritual is vital to restore the sanctity of the temple after this unfortunate incident,” said a temple servitor.
