Harassment and mental strain blamed for death of medical aspirant in Bhubaneswar hostel

Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: A medical aspirant, identified as Kalyani Sahoo from Salipur in Cuttack district, was found dead in her hostel room at a coaching center near Patia Square under Chandrasekharpur police limits on Thursday. The Plus II second-year science student had been preparing for her medical entrance exams while residing in a hostel managed by the coaching institute.
Kalyani’s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her room under unclear circumstances, leaving her family and friends in shock. While the exact cause of her death is yet to be determined, her family alleged that she was suffering from severe depression due to intense mental pressure from the coaching center, which had reportedly impacted her mental health.
Additionally, Kalyani’s family claimed she had previously reported instances of harassment by fellow hostel students, but her complaints were allegedly ignored by both hostel and coaching center authorities.
Chandrasekharpur police arrived at the scene following a tip-off, recovered Kalyani’s body, and registered a case. The body will be sent for a post-mortem, which may shed light on the cause of her death.
