Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: A serious ragging incident has come to light at the Government College of Engineering in Keonjhar, where a second-year mining student, Biswajit Behera, was allegedly assaulted by five senior students. Currently, Biswajit is receiving treatment for critical injuries at the District Headquarters Hospital.
According to Biswajit’s complaint, the assault occurred around 2:30 am, when the senior students forced entry into his hostel room after he refused to open the door. They allegedly attacked him with rods and sticks, leaving him severely injured.
The hostel warden, alerted to the situation, intervened promptly and directed the seniors to leave before rushing Biswajit to the hospital for medical care.
Biswajit’s family has since filed a police complaint, alleging that he was intentionally targeted. His father has appealed for strict action against the perpetrators to prevent future incidents.
College Principal Saroj Kumar Sarangi visited Biswajit in the hospital, assuring him that the college’s anti-ragging cell would act swiftly. A special meeting has been convened to address the matter.
