Silver crown stolen from Odisha’s revered Taratarini Temple

Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: A group of miscreants broke into the revered Taratarini Temple in Ganjam district late Tuesday night, stealing valuable items, including a silver crown of the presiding deity. Reports indicate that the thieves accessed the temple by breaking the grill and main door, then took a silver crown, other ornaments, and cash from the donation box.
The temple’s chief priest expressed deep shock and frustration, attributing the incident to the absence of CCTV cameras and inadequate security measures. On receiving a tip-off, Purushottampur police arrived on the scene Wednesday morning and launched an investigation. The theft has sparked outrage among devotees, many of whom are calling for enhanced protection of sacred sites.
The Taratarini Temple, located on a scenic hilltop overlooking the Rushikulya River, is an ancient shrine dedicated to Adi Shakti, symbolizing feminine power and the supreme mother goddess. This spiritual site attracts pilgrims from across India, and the incident has raised serious concerns about the security of religious institutions in the district.
