Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: A tragic incident occurred late Tuesday night in Maneswar Hatpada, Sambalpur district, when a fire broke out on the upper floor of a residential building, claiming the lives of a woman and her daughter. The victims, 90-year-old Snehalata Dixit and her 62-year-old daughter Sairendri, were burned alive in the blaze.
According to reports, the mother and daughter were trapped in the fire and screamed for help. Local residents quickly alerted the police and fire department. Firefighters responded swiftly, extinguishing the flames and attempting to rescue the women.
However, by the time they were pulled from the burning building, both had suffered severe burns and succumbed to their injuries.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, and foul play is suspected. Notably, the lower floor of the building was untouched by the fire, raising further suspicions. The police have launched an investigation to determine whether an electrical short circuit caused the fire or if something more sinister is at play. Authorities are also examining the family’s background, including the whereabouts of other relatives and their connection to the victims.
