Former Laxmipur MLA Purna Chandra Majhi passes away in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: Purna Chandra Majhi, former MLA of Laxmipur in Odisha’s Koraput district, passed away late Monday night in Bhubaneswar. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS for a prolonged illness. Majhi, a seasoned Congress leader, had secured victory in the 2008 by-election from the Laxmipur constituency. He was the son of Ananta Ram Majhi, a former minister and senior Congress figure, and the brother of Anusuya Majhi, a candidate for the Rayagada MLA seat.
The news of Majhi’s demise has left a deep void in Odisha’s political landscape, drawing condolences from leaders across party lines. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief, posting on his X account: “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of former Laxmipur MLA Purna Chandra Majhi. I’m extremely grieved and shocked. May Lord Jagannath grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.”
