By-Election Dates Changed From 13th to 20th In Three States

New Delhi: Following the requests of various political parties, the Election Commission (EC) has postponed the by-elections to be held in 14 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Kerala and Punjab from November 13 to 20. However, the result declaration date has been kept unchanged on November 23.
Further, the EC was requested to move the date of the by-election as Kalpathi Rastholsavam, Kartik Purnima and Guru Nanak Dev Prakash festivals were going to be observed. Out of the 14 constituencies to be held, there are 9 in Uttar Pradesh, 4 in Punjab and one in Kerala. It is worth noting that the EC fixed November 13 for the by-election in 48 assembly and 2 Lok Sabha seats in 15 states. However, as people are busy during this festival, there is a fear that the polling rate will decrease.
Earlier, there are instances of EC moving the election dates in various states keeping in view various valid reasons. The assembly constituencies where by-election to be held are Mirapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Kher, Sisamau, Karhal, Phulpur, Katehari and Majhawan (UP), Dera Baba Nanak, Chabewal, Giderbaha and Barnala (Punjab) and Palakkad (Kerala). The by-elections has become necessary as some MLAs who won the last Lok Sabha elections but became MPs and some others lost their lives.
