Young NIT medical officer found dead, suicide suspected
Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: A tragic incident unfolded at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, as a young medical officer was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Dr. Santosh Hugar. Dr. Hugar, a bachelor, had joined NIT in 2023 and was residing alone in the official quarters within the campus.
Preliminary investigations suggest suicide, though the motive behind this extreme act remains unclear. The discovery has left the NIT community in shock, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.
Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The incident has raised concerns about mental health, emphasizing the need for support systems in educational institutions.
