Odisha's Revenue Minister estimates Rs 600 crores in losses after Cyclone ‘DANA’

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, announced on Monday that the estimated loss from Cyclone ‘DANA’ and the subsequent floods, which affected approximately 14 districts, is around Rs 600 crores. According to Pujari, the impact of the cyclone and flooding has been severe, with districts such as Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Baleswar bearing the brunt of the disaster.
In his statement, Pujari highlighted that damage assessments are ongoing, and while most government departments have submitted their reports, the Panchayatiraj department is still finalizing its findings. Preliminary estimates reveal that 131 blocks across the 14 affected districts have seen significant disruptions, impacting 1.14 crore people in 637 villages.
The devastation includes 16,417 houses, with 27 completely destroyed and 14,680 partially damaged. The power sector has been particularly hard hit. The Minister assured that once the final reports are compiled, assistance will be extended to those in need.
