Two dead, six critical after consuming mango kernel jelly in Kandhamal

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: Two people have died, and six others remain critically ill after consuming jelly made from mango kernel in Mandipanka village, Gadapur panchayat, located in the Daringbadi block of Odisha's Kandhamal district.
Reports indicate that eight individuals fell severely ill after consuming the mango kernel jelly a few days ago. They were initially admitted to the Brahmani Community Health Center (CHC), where one woman tragically passed away. Another young woman died while being transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
As the condition of the remaining six patients worsened, they were also transferred to MKCG Medical College for advanced care.
While the exact cause of death is still under investigation, food poisoning from the mango kernel jelly is suspected. In response, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident. “The Health Department has launched an investigation. Officials from the District Headquarters Hospital and Health Directorate are on-site to assess the situation, and a medical team is conducting thorough inquiries,” the minister stated.
