Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: Rosalin Behera, the Tehsildar of Talcher in Odisha’s Angul district, lost Rs 90,000 in a cyber fraud incident, highlighting the growing threat of online scams despite awareness campaigns by government agencies.
According to reports, Behera received a fraudulent message from an unknown number, which contained a suspicious link. Unaware of the scam, she clicked the link, inadvertently giving fraudsters access to her bank account. Shortly afterward, she received a notification from her bank confirming that Rs 90,000 had been debited.
Alarmed by the incident, Behera immediately filed a complaint at the Talcher police station. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to track down the fraudsters.
Authorities have once again urged citizens to remain cautious while handling unknown messages or links to avoid falling into such traps. The incident underscores the need for heightened vigilance, even among government officials, against evolving cybercrime tactics.
