Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: A tragic drowning incident claimed the lives of a woman and her two children in Panupshi village under Ghatgaon police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Kamini Mahakud, wife of Prafulla Mahakud, along with their son Om Prakash Mahakud (7) and daughter Sunita Mahakud (5).

According to reports, Kamini had taken her children to a pond near their home for bathing. While she was washing clothes by the water’s edge, both children ventured into the deep end of the pond and began to drown. In a desperate attempt to save them, Kamini jumped into the water but also drowned.

Villagers, upon learning about the incident, rushed to the spot and pulled the three out of the pond. They were taken to the Ghatgaon Community Health Center (CHC), where doctors declared them ‘brought dead,’ leaving the community in shock and mourning.
