Railway engineer and family held hostage, robbers escape with valuables in Rourkela
Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: A Railway Junior Engineer (JE) and his family were held hostage by a group of masked robbers who looted jewellery, cash, and valuables worth over ₹20 lakh from their residence in Bondamunda Diesel Colony, Rourkela, late last night.
The victim, identified as Dilip Panda, was asleep when 5 to 6 robbers entered the house by breaking the window grill. The assailants tied up and gagged both Panda and his wife. To further intimidate the family, one of the robbers held a paniki (vegetable cutter) at the neck of their son, demanding valuables. Fearing harm, the family handed over their jewellery and cash.
Panda lodged a complaint with the Bondamunda police following the robbery. In response, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nirmal Kumar Mohapatra and a dog squad arrived at the scene to investigate.
