Cyclonic circulation in Andaman Sea triggers rain warnings for Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: A new upper-air cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20, 2024. Following this, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the central Bay of Bengal by October 22. This system is expected to move northwestward and intensify into a depression by October 24.
In light of these developments, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning, predicting light to moderate rainfall, thundershowers, and lightning in various districts of Odisha.

Day 1 (Up to 8:30 AM, October 19)
Rain: Light to moderate rain or thundershower likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, coastal districts, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Kandhamal. Dry weather is expected elsewhere.
Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Day 2 (8:30 AM, October 19 - 8:30 AM, October 20)
Rain: Light to moderate rain expected in southern Odisha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. Dry weather likely elsewhere.
Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in the same districts.
Day 3 (8:30 AM, October 20 - 8:30 AM, October 21)
Rain: Light to moderate rain expected in coastal districts, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi. Dry conditions will likely prevail in the remaining areas.
