Commissionerate Police interrogate fake call center operators in 3-day remand
Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: The Commissionerate Police have taken six suspects, arrested for operating a fake call center and defrauding individuals, into three-day remand for further investigation. The Bhubaneswar court granted permission for their custodial interrogation to uncover more details of the scam.
During the remand period, the accused will face intense questioning, and a special police team will travel to their residences in Kolkata as part of the probe, according to sources.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the group was involved in large-scale cyber fraud, targeting victims both domestically and internationally. They allegedly scammed American citizens by offering fake software products and antivirus services, amassing over Rs 2 crore.
Police are now examining the suspects' bank accounts to determine the full extent of the fraud.
The accused, all from West Bengal, are described as highly educated and had been operating the fraudulent call center from a flat at Kanchan Apartment in Sundarpada. Officials expect to uncover further links and possibly more accomplices as the investigation progresses.
