Maharashtra to vote on November 20, Jharkhand polls in two phases on November 13 and 20

New Delhi, Oct 15: The Election Commission announced that Maharashtra will hold Assembly elections in a single phase on November 20, while Jharkhand will conduct elections in two phases on November 13 and 20. The counting of votes for both states will take place on November 23.

Maharashtra has 288 Assembly seats, and Jharkhand has 81 seats. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar stated that notifications for Maharashtra’s polls would be issued on October 22, with nominations open the same day until October 29. Scrutiny will occur on October 30, and the last date to withdraw nominations is November 4.

For Jharkhand’s two-phase election, notifications will be issued on October 18 and October 22, with filing deadlines on October 25 and 29. Scrutiny will follow on October 28 and 30, and candidates can withdraw until October 30 and November 1.

The model code of conduct is now in effect. CEC Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, emphasized addressing urban voter apathy through special initiatives.

Maharashtra’s electorate comprises 9.63 crore voters (4.77 crore men and 4.66 crore women), while Jharkhand has 2.6 crore voters (1.31 crore men and 1.29 crore women). Maharashtra will set up 1,00,186 polling stations across 25,789 locations, and Jharkhand will have 29,562 polling stations at 20,281 locations.
