Body of alleged ganja smuggler found in Kandhamal forest, police accused of brutality

Bhubaneswar, Sept 30: Mystery surrounds the death of a suspected ganja smuggler, Jyostha Bandki, whose body was discovered in a forest near Danganamu Ghati road under Gochrapada police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
Jyostha, a resident of Beherapada village under Kantamal police limits in Boudh district, was reportedly smuggling ganja and illicit liquor with his friend, Dasiri Dagyal, on September 26. While en route to Kantamal, the two were allegedly chased by a patrolling party from Gochrapada police, resulting in their motorcycle being knocked down. Both sustained serious injuries, but Dasiri managed to escape.
Jyostha was reportedly apprehended by the police and brutally beaten, which allegedly led to his death. His body was then allegedly dumped in the forest, and the police are accused of fleeing with his money, ganja, and liquor.
The next day, villagers found Jyostha’s body at the bottom of a gorge and informed his family. The situation escalated as his family accused the police of killing him and disposing of the body. Jyostha’s brother claimed they learned of the incident from Dasiri, alleging that the police, instead of providing medical assistance, killed his brother after grievously injuring him.
