Odisha CM orders judicial probe into alleged assault on Army officer and fiancée

Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged assault on an Army officer and his fiancée at the Bharatpur police station.
The decision followed a meeting with Deputy Chief Ministers K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and senior officials. Justice Chittaranjan Das will lead the inquiry, which is expected to submit its findings within 60 days, as per the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) release.
The state government emphasized its commitment to upholding the law and pledged strict action against anyone found guilty. Five police personnel involved in the incident have been suspended, and a case has been registered against them. The individuals accused of misbehaving with the Army officer and his fiancée have been arrested and produced in court.
The incident, which occurred on September 15, involved an alleged assault when the Army officer and his fiancée visited the police station to report a road rage case.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJD has demanded a court-monitored SIT probe alongside the judicial inquiry and has called for a Bhubaneswar bandh on September 24.
