Two arrested in BMC raid over bribery in Odisha’s Subhadra scheme
Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken decisive action against corruption by sealing two Jana Seva Kendras and arresting two individuals accused of demanding bribes from women applying for the Odisha government’s Subhadra scheme. This move comes in response to complaints about extortion related to application forms, registration, and assistance with the enrollment process.
Following these allegations, BMC conducted an investigation that confirmed the bribery claims, leading to the sealing of the centers at Niladri Vihar and Satya Nagar. The civic body has also filed an FIR against the accused and assured that application forms will remain available until all applicants have been served.
In light of these developments, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has issued a stern warning against bribery and urged citizens to report such incidents to the police. The state government is taking these measures seriously as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the scheme on his birthday in Puri, with the government keen to ensure a smooth and corruption-free rollout.
