Rain likely over Odisha this weekend due to developing low-pressure system
Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a wet spell for Odisha due to the likely formation of a low-pressure area over coastal Bangladesh and its surrounding regions.
In its Thursday afternoon bulletin, IMD mentioned that an upper air cyclonic circulation currently lies over southeast Bangladesh, extending up to 7.6 km above sea level. This system is expected to develop into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours, gradually moving west-northwest and intensifying into a depression over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal within the following 48 hours.
Odisha is likely to experience rainfall from Friday through Sunday due to this system. Gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected over the North Bay of Bengal and along Odisha's coast during this period, prompting IMD to advise fishermen to avoid venturing into these waters.
District-wise forecast:
Day 1 (13-14 Sept): Light to moderate rain across Odisha.
Day 2 (14-15 Sept): Rain in North Odisha and parts of South Odisha.
Day 3 (15-16 Sept): Rain in North Odisha, scattered in South Odisha.
