Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: A newborn baby was discovered abandoned near the Hepatology department at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Thursday morning. The incident came to light when Renuka Parida, an on-duty staff member, noticed the baby, who weighed approximately 1.5 kg, lying unattended.

Acting swiftly, the hospital staff immediately admitted the baby to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department, where the infant's condition is being closely monitored. Fortunately, the baby is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the abandonment of the newborn within the hospital premises. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and welfare of newborns, prompting hospital officials to review security measures. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to locate the baby's parents or guardians.
