Odisha to experience severe rainfall and lightning this weekend

Bhubaneswar, Aug 23: Odisha is preparing for a wet and stormy weekend as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts significant rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts on August 24 and 25.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is expected in isolated areas of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar on August 24. An orange alert has been issued for these districts.
For August 25, the IMD has extended orange warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning to Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, and Keonjhar.
The forecast also predicts heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, and Nuapada on August 24.
Additionally, on August 25, districts such as Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangapur are likely to experience heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning. A yellow warning has been issued for these regions.
Looking ahead to August 26, the IMD predicts heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning in isolated areas of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Keonjhar.
