Amit Rohidas receives hero’s welcome in Odisha after Olympic bronze

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: Odisha’s hockey sensation, Amit Rohidas, received a hero’s welcome upon his return from the Paris Olympics, where he played a pivotal role in helping India secure a bronze medal.
Rohidas, hailing from Saunamara village in Sundergarh district, was greeted by enthusiastic fans, family members, and officials at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Friday. As the first Odia player to win consecutive Olympic medals, he was felicitated by Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh and praised by fans who hailed him as a local hero.
In recognition of his outstanding achievement, the state government announced a cash reward of Rs 4 crore for Rohidas. Additionally, each player of the Indian hockey team will receive Rs 15 lakh, and the support staff will be awarded Rs 10 lakh each.
Rohidas, who played a crucial role in India’s Olympic success, dedicated his medal to the people of Odisha. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their unwavering support.
Rohidas also thanked his family, coaches, and teammates for their continuous encouragement. Speaking to the media, he assured that he will continue to elevate the sport of hockey to new heights in the future.
