Koraput SP suspends 11 cops for dereliction of duty in ganja smuggling case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: The Superintendent of Police (SP) in Odisha’s Koraput district has suspended 11 police officers for dereliction of duty. The suspended officers include three Sub-Inspectors, two constables, and two home guards. They are accused of releasing criminals and vehicles involved in ganja (cannabis) smuggling.
On Monday night, a joint team of Machhkund and Lamtaput police intercepted a truck suspected of smuggling ganja. However, instead of arresting the suspects and seizing the vehicle, the officers on duty allegedly allowed them to go free. This incident came to light when it was reported to senior district police officials, prompting an immediate investigation.
As the probe continues, the exact circumstances of the incident are being clarified. Senior police officials have issued a statement outlining the reasons behind the suspension of the officers, emphasizing the importance of accountability and adherence to duty in the force.
