ECI sets September 3 for Rajya Sabha bye-election in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: The Rajya Sabha bye-election for the vacant seat from Odisha is scheduled for September 3, 2024. This follows the issuance of a notification by the Election Commission of India on Wednesday.
The vacancy arose after Mamata Mohanta resigned from her position on July 31, 2024. Mohanta, who was a BJP MP, had a term set to expire in April 2026. Following her resignation, she left the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and joined the BJP the following day.
The election process will commence with the issuance of the notification on August 14, 2024. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on August 22. According to the ECI notification, polling will occur from 9 am to 4 pm on September 3, with the counting of votes starting at 5 pm the same day. This election is set to fill the significant vacancy in the Rajya Sabha, ensuring continued representation for Odisha in the upper house of Parliament.
