YB Khurania emerges as top contender for Odisha DGP
Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: Reports suggest that three senior IPS officers are in the running for the coveted Director General of Police (DGP) position in Odisha.
While 1988 batch IPS Arun Kumar Roy and 1989 batch IPS SM Narvane are also in contention, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania (YB Khurania) of the 1990 batch is likely to secure the top post. The Ministry of Home Affairs' approval of his repatriation to Odisha with immediate effect has fueled speculation about his appointment.
Khurania, currently serving as Special DG, BSF Head Quarters in New Delhi, has a distinguished career in Odisha, having held various positions including Superintendent of Police in multiple districts, DIG, and Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
Notably, he arrested Dara Singh, convicted of murdering Australian missionary Graham Staines and his sons, during his tenure as Mayurbhanj SP. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved Khurania's premature repatriation to his parent cadre, paving the way for his potential appointment as Odisha's next DGP.
